01

Genres are starting points

Manga rarely fits one shelf. A romance can also be historical drama; horror can be comedy or psychological mystery. Use genre labels to narrow your mood, not limit discovery.

02

Romance

Start by choosing the relationship pace and emotional temperature you want: comedy, slow burn, adult drama, healing, heartbreak, or fantasy.

03

Horror

Body horror, folklore, psychological dread, survival stories, and short-form collections create very different reading experiences. Content notes matter.

04

Action and fantasy

Look beyond power levels. Strong action manga uses choreography, stakes, character goals, and world rules to make conflict meaningful.

05

Quiet stories

Slice-of-life, workplace, food, family, and healing manga can be excellent entry points for readers who do not want a long battle series.

06

Build a varied reading list

Alternate one comfortable genre with one unfamiliar selection. A ten-volume finished series is often easier to explore than another endless commitment.
